Create Your Own Ukrainian Calendar!

If you're like me, you missed out on ordering a Ukrainian calendar due to the increased interest in Ukraine and the Ukrainian language. So now what?

Surrounding yourself in your target language is a bit like immersion. A calendar is one item in particular to help you with months and days of the week drills, and also to become familiar with key dates in Ukraine.

Missing out on the calendars on Yevshan was bittersweet. On one hand, it's clear that there was a demand, which is a good thing. On the other hand, I've been hawk-eyeing the site for the last month making sure I ordered early, yet I still missed it.

So I've turned a negative situation into a positive. I decided to create my own calendar with a few tools online, pulled out my scissors and glue and got busy. Compared to ordering, it's less expensive, it's fun, it reinforces my own language skills, and it can be custom-created.

How to Create Your Own Calendar

Websites I used:

Time & Date is a free site for creating a single-year display, and you can select the language you want formatted, and the rest is done for you! You don't have to do any extra work. The downside is that it is rather plain. If you prefer to attach the piece to your favourite Ukrainian image, you will just need to get crafty.

General Blue is how I created my own month-to-month calendar. It requires work to convert into your target language, but it's free, and has many templates to choose from.

ONLINE SEARCHING:

Moon Phases ~ Find exact dates and times for your location.

National Holidays ~ Add important dates that your country observes and that of any other region that suits you.

Daylight Saving Time ~ Most calendars don't add DST as many regions don't observe them, or observe them on different dates. If you do, find your date and add it in!

Equinoxes & Solstices ~ Search the exact date (and time) these will be in your region.

Personal Dates ~ Don't forget to add birthdates and anniversaries of your loved ones.
